When reading this story I would like for you to focus on Omovo and the relationship to his father.
I would also like for you to find places in the text which you find interesting or simply odd, basically I want you to come up with questions to the text. Why? Why? Why?

-Who is the strange woman?
ReplyDelete-Who are these shadows figures?
--Are the soldiers good or bad?
-Is it all fantasy?
_What role does the radio play?
-What does the bodies represent?
Think of the title and the settings. There is a war going on, right? Are the soldiers good or bad then? Well, how are they portrayed - in a positive or a negative way? In terms of the radio, do you think it is good for children to listen to war news? Maybe you should ask yourself whether the father is protecting Omovo? I mean what would you do if there was war, and you had to go on living with your family?
ReplyDeleteWhen thinking about the woman, the bodies and the mysterious description of shadows, what could the meaning be knowing that there is a war going on, and the fact that Omovo is nothing but a child?
Why is Omovo so intrigued by the woman?
ReplyDeleteWhy did the men stop following the woman and took a different route and later on asked her: 'where are the others? (instead of following her all the way)
Did he ever really leave the house?
Wouldn´t you be intrigued? - She wears a black veil and disappears into the forest, all the other children are also talking about her, making up stories because she is so mysterious.
ReplyDeleteWhy the men are taking a different route, is a good question. But it is said in the text that it seems as if they know what they are doing, and it also seems as if they have been drinking a bit. What is the relevance of your question?
If Omovo leaves the house is also a good question. There is evidence that he does as he, apparently, is brought back by the soldiers. But what makes you think that he is just dreaming, and what could be the meaning of it? I mean what are the themes of this short story?
